The vegetable introduced today is burdock root. Burdock is a perennial herb in the family Asteraceae, genus Burdock, native to Eurasia. In Japan, it is edible as a kind of vegetable or root vegetable. In Osaka dialect, it is called "gombo. It is one of the plants described in Linnaeus' "The Seeds of Plants.
